I'm not surprised that this is taking off. Spanish and Chinese immersion schools here in the US are absolute gems. It seems natural that it might work the other way around, too!
I wish more schools would adapt this way of teaching. When it comes to being multi-lingual, the US is behind.

Knowledge of other languages greatly enhances learners’ understanding of languages in general and enables people to use their native language more effectively.
